Baldwin School District Welcomes Over 20 New Teachers

BALDWIN, NY — Schools across Long Island celebrated the return of students this week, but in the Baldwin School District there was a welcoming of a different sort that kicked off Monday: New teachers, over 20 of whom are entering the district for their first school year this year.

The teachers came into Baldwin at the end of August for new staff orientation, which district officials said was a chance to teach them about the district's mission, vision and dedication to its students. The new staff members were also informed of the instructional programs, resources and support that they would have available to them once the school year began.

"The week-long professional learning experience provides the new teachers and other support staff an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the district, meet colleagues, and understand what it means to be part of the Baldwin family," district officials said.

At the center of that familiarization, the district said, was the set of core competencies identified by its administration. The goal, officials said, remains for students to learn communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, civics and character in their time at Baldwin.

"These competencies are integrated into the student experience and represent the skills and qualities Baldwin aims to cultivate in every learner," the district said.
