🌱ATM Card Skimmers In Long Beach? + Manhasset Gun Stash Uncovered

Here are the top five stories today in Merrick:

  1. Long Beach Police have issued an alert regarding ATM skimming devices possibly located throughout the area. The devices look just like normal card readers, but they allow criminals to access your bank card info. To check if a skimming device is attached to an ATM you're using, gently tug on the card reader — if it's loose, you may need to alert the police. (Daily Voice)
  2. Affordable housing is coming to Long Island, The Real Deal reports. D&F Development Group is leading a 71-unit project in Farmingdale, set to finish in 2024. The project took three years from initial concept to its recent approval from the Nassau County Industrial Development Agency.
  3. Take a ride on the history train in an article by Jerry Barmash. Did you know that the Long Island Rail Road include that it was initially located 1,000 feet closer to the ocean? Also, there was once a five-mile extension that took riders to Point Lookout from 1881-1895, but it was washed out after several storms. (Patch)
  4. Are you a strong swimmer? Jones Beach is looking for lifeguard applicants. The new hire exam for prospective lifeguards will be on June 12, so starting getting into rescue shape now! (WPIX 11 New York)
  5. A Thursday raid on the home of a Manhasset man uncovered a large stash of firearms, Nassau County Commissioner Patrick Ryder revealed on Friday. Police discovered 12 weapons and other gun paraphenalia at Matthew Spigner's Circle Drive home on April 8. Spigner was already scheduled to be sentenced next week for possession of 18 illegal weapons. (Newsday, subscription required)
