MERRICK, NY - From Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District: On Nov. 19, sophomores in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District’s Advanced Science Research program traveled to LIU Post, to attend a retreat that was designed exclusively for them.
“Throughout the day, students were hosted by professors of biology, biomedical science, chemistry, health science, psychology and forensic science who engaged them with hands-on laboratory activities and discussions about science research,” said Robert Soel, science chairperson.
The students also met with LIU students who spoke about their projects and research experiences in the LIU honors college.

“An exciting part of the day was the opportunity to work collectively with ASR sophomores from each of the schools,” said Patrick Mannion, a science chairperson. “It was a very inspiring experience and a great chance to learn directly from local research scientists.”
