The fire marshal said the fire broke out at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday night.
FREEPORT, NY. — An unidentified body was found as fire personnel inspected the remains of a trailer that had caught fire in Freeport late Tuesday night, fire officials said Wednesday.
The Nassau County Fire Marshal said the fire broke out in a trailer near Commercial Street in Freeport at 11:45 p.m., with the Freeport Fire Department responding to the scene. Upon arrival, the fire marshal said firefighters saw the trailer “fully involved” in fire. The firefighters extinguished the fire quickly without any injuries to first responders, the fire marshal said.
Discovered in the remains of the trailer was the body of an unidentified person, who was declared dead at the scene, fire officials said. The Fire marshal’s office said it’s working with the NCPD Arson Bomb Squad and Freeport Police to determine who the person was that they found in the wreckage of the trailer, as well as to investigate the cause of the fire. The fire marshal's office did not report any further injuries to civilians as a result of the fire.
