Real Food–Bad Stuff=Healthy Deliciousness

I love my sweets! But the majority of the time, I want to keep my "pipes" clean if you know what I mean. Read on for some yummy tips that will make you feel..well, sweet!

Okay I know this is going to sound crazy and my friends are going to laugh at me because they know this…but I LOVE to eat healthy foods.  The reality is we just feel better eating healthy.  Don’t get me wrong.  I love my sweets and enjoy splurging every once in a while!  But the majority of the time, I want to keep my “pipes” clean if you know what I mean!

Now, when I say healthy foods I’m not talking about wheat grass or anything that Mrs. Green Thumb would use to help her garden grow.  I’m talking about fruits, veggies, whole wheat, bran, lean meats, fish…you get the picture.

Being an American, you’re probably wondering how in the world we can squeeze in time out of our busy, hectic lives to make something healthy.  I mean, really, the quickest things to make aren’t always the healthiest but we have no choice right?  EHH WRONG.  After talking with a few co-workers, I soon discovered a bunch of ideas that you may be interested in as well.

Check out this guy.  His name is Dr. Josh Axe.  Other than being extremely handsome (or shall I say yummy?), he has come up with a whole slew of easy recipes that are healthy and tasty.  He even has desserts.  Woo!  My sweet tooth and I never thought healthy and dessert would ever end up in the same sentence.

This is one of my ultimate favorites.  Kale chips.  Kale…chips? you ask. Yes.  Trust me on this one.  They are so light that I either eat them out of the bowl or let them dissolve in my soup for extra flavor.  If you ever want something to snack on, these are for you.  While the recipe below says to use salt, I personally think they taste much better with onion powder.  It gives it just enough flavor to make these babies irresistible. You can also use garlic powder or anything else you prefer.  My thing with cooking/baking is try it and see what happens.  Be creative!

If you wanna spice things up a little bit, this one is a hit!  It’s called Black Bean and Corn Salsa.  I’ve never had it with rotel before.  Honestly, I don’t even know what rotel is but hey it might be good.  AND it only takes 15 minutes to make!  So, as you are getting ready to head to the neighbor’s Super bowl party and your significant other sweetly says, “Umm hey honey? I forgot to remind you that we are supposed to bring something.”  Take a deep breath.  All you gotta do is run to the store, throw these babies together, grab a bag of tortilla chips and voila!  You’re safe.  Phew! (PS the ladies will love it-only 45 calories and .3 grams of fat)

Frozen bag of veggies.  Wait!  Don’t squirm yet.  You will be amazed when you try this.  Unlike the typical melt in your mouth water-filled frozen veggies, these actually have a crunch to them!  All you have to do is pop them in the micro for about 7 minutes and they are ready to eat.  So you not only enjoy the veggies, you are getting all of the nutrients as well!  Can I get a hallelujah?!  You can find them at many local food stores.
