Riding the Rails: When the BNT Becomes 'WTF?' Welcome!
A commuter's perspective on the LIRR, Penn Station follies, etc. in a humorous twist.

Welcome to the first edition of “Rails,” a commuter’s look at the buzz and jumble of that tragic travel from home to work and the wonderful trip back home. This blog is created to teach you what to do when you ride the LIRR, how to deal with morons on the road, and what you should have to prepare yourself for the worst - all in a nice, neat and humorous little package. I will give consumer reviews on some strategic products to keep with you at all, if not, most, times as well.
In general, this is a rumination (and sometimes rant) of my many personal experiences riding the train multiple times a week.
Before we dive into this awesome, here is a little bit about me. I got my BFA from C.W. Post in 2006 and my MBA from the same institution in 2010. I currently freelance as an archivist at NBC News (sorry, I have no pull on tickets) and frequent that wonderful form of mass transit, the Long Island Rail Road, or as my friend Betty would call it “Let’s Irritate Residents Regularly.”

I recognize I wrote BNT (Bridges and Tunnels for those of you not in “the know”) and I ride the train. Trust me; I’ve gone into the city and the outer boroughs via automobile my fair share of times to know I can gripe about this.
I hope you will stick with me and enjoy this journey through the wonderful world of commuting for the sake of a paycheck and dealing with loud cell phone talkers, horn leaners and obnoxious tourists. Sometimes it seems insane, but someone’s gotta do it.
