Calhoun Girls Lacrosse Fall Against High-Powered Massapequa Offense to Cap Off Week
The Colts wrapped up the week with a 1-2 mark after falling to the Chiefs.
The Calhoun girls lacrosse team faced two of the toughest teams in Nassau County over the past week as the close to the regular season is approaching fast. The Colts wrapped up a battle-tested week with a 1-2 record to move to 4-9 overall with a 3-4 mark in Conference A-I.
On Tuesday, Calhoun traveled to Farmingdale to take on the defending County champions in the Dalers. The first half was a tough one to get through for the Colts as they trailed after 25 minutes, 14-1. Calhoun outscored Farmingdale 5-1 in the second half led by two goals from Kristen Tack, but eventually fell 15-6.
Just two days later, Calhoun hit the road again, this time to Syosset to take on the Braves. The two teams played a tight game throughout the first half, but the Colts were able to pull away in the second half to pick up a big 9-3 win. Calhoun was led by Meghan O’Sullivan with five goals and two assists in the win.

On Friday, Calhoun hosted the team that lost to Farmingdale in last years’ County Finals, that of Massapequa. Calhoun struck goal first as O’Sullivan found the back of the net early in the first half.
The lead would only last so long as Massapequa’s Kelsey O’Brien scored the Chiefs’ first two goals to take a one-goal advantage. The visiting team scored seven more goals before the halftime whistle, including two more from O’Brien, to lead 9-1.

Massapequa came out in the beginning of the second half just how they ended the first. Danielle Doherty added three goals and O’Brien kept finding the back of the net to make the score 15-1 in the Chiefs favor.
Calhoun scored the next four goals of the game, including two from O’Sullivan and one from Katie Teves and Jessica Silverman each to make the score 15-5. With one more goal from O’Brien for Massapequa and one from O’Sullivan for Calhoun, the Chiefs took the league match up on the road, 16-6.
“Massapequa is a skilled team and they were able to capitalize on our mistakes and having the majority of the possession,” Calhoun head coach James Raucci said. “O’Sullivan played hard out there and wants to stay involved, so that was one bright spot for us.”
Calhoun still has an outside shot of making the playoffs with four spots out of the conference up for grabs. They will take on Plainview JFK at home on May 9 at 4:15 p.m. before heading to Port Washington on May 11 in a game that will ultimately decide their postseason fate for 2011.
