Calhoun High School October Athletes of the Month

Elias Platanias - Calhoun Cross Country

Elias is one of the best and most decorated athletes Calhoun has ever seen. His accomplishments started early in the season when Elias went to the Pre-State Meet and placed 4th amongst some of the best teams in the state. Elias then went to Sunken Meadow where he won the Suffolk Coaches meet recording the best time of the day amongst some of the best schools on long island. His best performance came in the County Championship where he won and he became the best out of the 5000 athletes in Nassau County Cross Country. Multiple times he has received All–county honors and after he leads his team to victory this weekend at the state qualifier he hopes to become All–State this year.

He is currently undecided about colleges as he is entertaining scholarship offers. As you can see there is no better candidate for athlete of the month then Elias Platanias - Coach David Hendler.

Taylor Iacono - Calhoun Soccer

Taylor has been on the Girls’ Varsity Soccer team for the past four years. Taylor has helped bring the team to the County finals in 9th and 10th grade, the quarterfinals in 11th grade, and the semifinals in 12th grade.
Taylor is a fast and skilled forward who finds the back of the net. She led the team with 6 goals and 10 assists this season. She takes phenomenal corner kicks and crosses, which has led to most of her assists. She is the type of player that consistently makes positive things happen. As a captain, she was a leader and great role model both on and off the field. She will be receiving the All County Award and the Scholar Athlete Award at the Nassau County Soccer Dinner later this month. Taylor is planning on playing soccer in college and majoring in psychology. - Coach L. Biscardi
