Calhoun HS Hosts A Successful Relay For Life
On Friday Calhoun HS held their relay for life event which was a huge success.
Cancer is a horrible disease that everyone wants to get rid of. On Friday the Calhoun High School Community took a big step in helping find a cure. After a lot of time planning and coordinating the school was able to finally hold a Relay For Life Event with the help of the American Cancer Society. The event included a teacher relay race, face painting , Teams walking around the track.
The event also included some live music with some local talent from the area. A local band and Merrick’s own American Idol Robbie Rosen from season 10 also came out to support his Alma Mater in raising money for the cause. Robbie sung a few songs at the outdoor stage before the Luminaria Ceremony in which the track was lite up by tea lights in bags.
During the ceremony silence was kept for time of reflection for those who were affected by this terrible disease either by loss of someone to it or by someone close to them currently suffering. After the ceremony the bleachers on the home team side had lights placed on them in the form of the words hope and cure. This was a very touching night for many and paid off approximately $65,000 was raised by this amazing group of people.
