Calhoun Shares the Wealth in Win Over Syosset
Lady Colts jump out to 9-0 lead, roll over Syosset, 11-3, on Saturday.
An 11-3 win makes just about any lacrosse coach happy. But when James Raucci found out that five different Calhoun girls picked up the first five goals in Saturday's home win over Syosset, he really perked up.
"We've been trying to make it more of a team game and get everybody involved," Raucci said. "So to do that is pretty huge."
Danielle Kirby, Jessica Teves, Ava Fitzerald, Diandra Hanna and Megan O'Sullivan scored in that order during the first 15 minutes of the game for a 5-0 advantage. According to Raucci that kind of balance is going to be crucial when Calhoun (3-1, 1-0) gets into the heart of the Conference I schedule.

"Against those teams if you're not moving the ball around you're not going to do well," Raucci said.
Syosset coach Diane Malley isn't lying in describing her team as "very young," as she has 10 sophomores and two freshman on her roster of 18.

But down 9-0 early in the second half, the Lady Braves proved that they're not just going to lay down. Dana Aronowitz, Kasey Leverne and and Connor Bird scored consecutive goals. Grucci even took a break from coaching his own team to yell over a compliment to Malley on the fine play of Syosset sophomore goalie Meg Gulmi.
Hanna, a junior, led the Lady Colts with four goals, displaying a 360 move that would put many NBAers to shame.
