Calhoun's Jake Thomas Named Top Baseball Player in Nassau County

Finishes career as one of program's top hitters, looks to make his mark at Binghamton.

Calhoun senior Jake Thomas won the Diamond Award presented by the Nassau County Baseball Coaches Association as the county’s top baseball player at a ceremony at the Long Island Marriott in Uniondale Wednesday evening.

Thomas also won the Ryan T. Caulfield award as the county’s top catcher, which is ironic since he played in the RTC Grand Slam Challenge last week and won Nassau County MVP honors for the game named in Caulfield’s honor.

“I am honored and humbled to receive the Diamond Award,” said Thomas, who has committed to play at SUNY Binghamton.

He was a finalist last year and stopped at nothing to take home the honor this season in which he led Calhoun in all major offensive statistical categories.

“Being a finalist last year, I knew it was going to take a lot of hard work and dedication to get the opportunity again this year,” he said. “I was also lucky to be surrounded by so many people that helped me along the way like Coach [Joe] Corea, Storm coach Shaun Manning, hitting instructor Nick Clark and my family, friends and teammates."
