Chezar Summer Show Features Three Merrick Residents

Katarina Bakke, Linda Gottlieb and Marilyn Wolfson's paintings are in art show.

Merrick residents Katarina Bakke, Linda Gottlieb and Marilyn Wolfson have several paintings in the Chezar Art Studio Summer Show. It is running through August 29th at the Jericho Public Library.

Sheila Chezar- Hershkowitz, founder of the studio announced that the reception was a wonderful event with over 75 people who attended. The August show features paintings and drawings of 14 talented artists and students who have attended the studio since its opening in 2012.

Katerina Bakke is a Merrick resident who is a student at Nassau Community College. Her strongest area in art is still life and she enjoys painting in oils and acrylics. Katerina won second place in the Hernando County’s Art in the Park, in Florida. In addition, her artwork is featured on the labels of her parents’ hand-crafted wine made through Sannino Bella Vita Vineyard “Vine to Wine” program in Peconic. Ms. Bakke’s goal is to expand her abilities and sell her artwork.

Linda Gottlieb is an experienced artist and teacher, well versed in the visual arts, and art history. Her professional career has been twofold: a textile and then fashion designer as well as a partner in a high end lingerie company. Linda has an Advanced Certificate in Fine Art Appraisal and Connoisseurship from New York University and a Masters in Art Education from Long Island University at C.W. Post. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Painting from Rochester Institute of Technology.

Marilyn Wolfson received her Bachelor’s in Elementary Education and her Masters in Early Childhood from Hofstra University. She has been influenced by her grandfather, a self-taught artist who encouraged his grandchildren to paint and draw. She is now passing that enthusiasm to her dad who has just started painting. Mrs. Wolfson enjoys working paint and pastels, especially acrylics. Her favorite subjects are landscapes and flowers. She likes to paint “charming scenes.”

Sheila Chezar-Hershkowitz received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York City and also attended the Woodstock Summer School in Woodstock. In 2012, she founded Chezar Art Studio, located at 1069 Bellmore Avenue in Bellmore. Recently, she has also conducted a spring art class at the Jericho Public Library, which will continue in the fall. Sheila works with various mediums with a heavy concentration on portraits.
