🌱Chocolate Expo Returns + Nassau County Reassessment Under Audit

Here are the top five stories in Merrick today:

  1. The Chocolate Expo is scheduled to return to Long Island's Cradle of Aviation Museum next month. The foodie-friendly event took a hiatus for the past two years because of the pandemic. Garden City's Chocolate Expo is the largest chocolate event in the United States. Mark your calendar and prepare your palate for March 27, 2022. (LongIsland.com)
  2. A local nonprofit that supports cancer patients and their families is sponsoring a Blue Ribbon Initiative in support of police. Nassau County Executive Bruce A. Blakeman and many other elected officials were on site at the Hewlitt House for the event kickoff last week. (LongIsland.com)
  3. Meteorologists say to expect high winds and thunderstorms later this week. "Confidence is increasing in the potential of wind gusts of 45 to 55 mph Thursday night into early Friday morning as a strong frontal system tracks through the area," the National Weather Statement said in a statement made Tuesday morning. The agency told folks to prepare for possible power outages that could occur during the storm. (Daily Voice)
  4. Nassau County Comptroller Elaine Phillips says that she has started an audit of the 2020-2021 school tax year reassessment. Former Nassau County Executive Laura Curran initiated the action, which brought tax increases for many. The reassessment, which was supported by county legislators and industry professionals in 2018, came after an eight-year freeze on assessments. (Newsday)
