District Receives 2016 ACEC New York Engineering Excellence Award

Great Neck, N.Y. (July 29, 2016) – The Great Neck Water Pollution Control District (GNWPCD) recently received the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) New York Engineering Excellence Platinum Award. The District received this prestigious award in the energy category for pioneering sustainable technology through its microturbine cogeneration facility.
“The District is honored to accept this prestigious distinction,” said GNWPCD Superintendent Christopher Murphy. “This award recognizes the District’s commitment to providing the Great Neck community with one of the most ecology-friendly and innovative operations in the nation.”
The GNWPCD’s microturbine facility aids in powering its wastewater treatment plant by using methane waste gas in a sustainable, efficient and economical way. The facility provides both heat and electricity, saving taxpayers in excess of $110,000 annually.
