Drunk Woman Charged With Assaulting Two Officers In Merrick: Police

The 25-year-old was arrested Saturday night.

MERRICK, NY - A Central Islip woman was arrested on Saturday night for assaulting two officers while drunk in Merrick, according to Nassau Police.

According to detectives, officers responded to a 911 call for a disturbance at the Gateway Hotel on 1780 Sunrise Highway at about 8:41 p.m.

Responding officers found 25-year-old Cindy Pereira, who appeared to be drunk and was "uncooperative," police said.

During the investigation, Pereira attacked one of the responding officers and struck her in the head with a closed fist, police said.

A struggle ensued and the Pereira was placed under arrest.

While officers placed her into a police car, she continued to resist and kicked both responding officers in the face and neck causing injuries, police said.

The officers were transported to an area hospital where they were treated and released.

Pereira is charged with two counts of second degree assault, second degree obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest.

She will be arraigned when practical.
