Our organization provides essential support to Ukrainian Humanitarian parolees through the Ukraine Supplemental Appropriation to Resettlement Agencies (USARA) Program. Through USARA, we help individuals and families achieve stability, economic independence, and successful integration into the community. We serve Ukrainian citizens paroled into the U.S., as well as non-Ukrainians who resided in Ukraine and were paroled into the U.S. between February 24, 2022 and September 30, 2024. MERRICK, NY - A Central Islip woman was arrested on Saturday night for assaulting two officers while drunk in Merrick, according to Nassau Police. According to detectives, officers responded to a 911 call for a disturbance at the Gateway Hotel on 1780 Sunrise Highway at about 8:41 p.m. Responding officers found 25-year-old Cindy Pereira, who appeared to be drunk and was "uncooperative," police said. During the investigation, Pereira attacked one of the responding officers and struck her in the head with a closed fist, police said. A struggle ensued and the Pereira was placed under arrest. While officers placed her into a police car, she continued to resist and kicked both responding officers in the face and neck causing injuries, police said. The officers were transported to an area hospital where they were treated and released. Pereira is charged with two counts of second degree assault, second degree obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest. She will be arraigned when practical.
