Off-Duty Cop Saves Drowning Child In Nassau Pool
Hero to the rescue! A 2-year-old girl is alive thanks to an off-duty police detective.
BELLMORE, NY – An off-duty Suffolk County Police Department detective saved his neighbor's child from drowning Sunday afternoon, Nassau Police said.
A 911 call for a 2-year-old drowning in a pool on Shore Road in Bellmore came in around 4 p.m., police said.
The off-duty detective sprang into action as Nassau Police rushed to the home. The detective, who has not been named, removed the 2-year-old girl from the pool and initiated CPR, police said.

The child regained consciousness and was transported to an area hospital for treatment by the Bellmore Fire Department. She is listed in stable condition in the hospital’s pediatric ICU, police said.
