Envelopes Stolen From Merrick Post Office Drop Box: Police

Three men were taken into custody for the early Monday morning crime, detectives say.

MERRICK, NY — Three men were arrested and charged in connection to stealing from a mailbox at the Merrick Post Office located on Fisher Avenue, police said.

It happened just after 2 a.m. on Monday.

The men were seen pulling up to the post office in a white 2020 Honda Accord.

Two passengers, Noah Aranzamendi, 24, of Brooklyn, and Ralph Aranzamendi, 30, of Howard Beach, opened the mail drop box and removed envelopes, detectives said.

They were placed in custody without incident.

The driver, Angel Martinez, 31, of the Bronx, fled the scene, but was stopped a short time later and arrested, police said.

After an investigation, police said, it was determined that Noah Aranzamendi was also responsible for a previous larceny that occurred on Monday, December 19.

He faces multiple charges that include three counts of fourth-degree grand larceny and two counts of first-degree criminal tampering.

Angel Martinez and Ralph Aranzamendi's charges include fourth-degree grand larceny and three counts 0f petit larceny. Martinez is also charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, according to police.

They were expected to be arraigned on Tuesday.
