Set in the 1980s, Colson Whiteheads novel tells the story of Benji Cooper, son of a lawyer and a doctor, as well as one of the few black students at an elite prep school in New York City.
Every summer, he, his brother Reggie and his friends head east on the LIE and out to Azurerest in Sag Harbor. Benjis observations and social commentary are uplifting and humorous, giving the reader a wonderful sense of time and place.
Elizabeth Olesh will moderate. She has served as co-chair of Long Island Reads. Copies of the book are available at the Circulation Desk. Refreshments will be served, compliments of The Friends.
