The Glass Room by Simon Mawer is a novel of architecture, art and love that was long-listed for this year's Man Booker Prize for fiction. The home at the heart of the novel is the opposite of primitive. The architect wishes to "take Man out of the cave and float him in the air." His ambition, he announces, is to build a house of glass. Set in Czechoslovakia, the novel explores peoples' hopes and aspirations in a moving read. Mira Sennett moderates.
