On Sunday October 23, 2011 Nadine Scharman of North Merrick will showcase her original play "Chasing Rainbows in Me" at the 21st Annual Merrick Street Festival. Performance time is 12:30 p.m. at the gazebo in the town commons area.
Ms. Scharman, a renown flutist, has performed with concert, orchestral and chamber groups and toured many countries performing her music. A few years back she decided to put pen to paper and to music sheet and compose this play. "Chasing Rainbows in Me" is the story of Jamie and her search for what brings happiness and joy to her life. She travels with her Auntie Rose all over the world looking for her own personal "pot of gold."
There is a lesson to be learned from this work - that its okay for you to be different, what makes you happy is not always going to be what makes your best friend (or someone else) happy. As Jamie and Auntie Rose travel the audience comes with them on their journey to places like London, Paris, Japan and Burkina Faso in Africa. Through music and puppetry, Ms. Scharman's play expresses tolerance and acceptance of others as well as building your own self-esteem.
Also in featured this showcase is Tara Kavanagh, a vocalist who performs with Ms. Scharman in the group Les Trios Femmes, she is also the co-founder of the Northport Opera Company. Silva Berhardt a veteran on numerous New York and European productions will also be featured in this performance.
Ms. Scharman and company have performed "Chasing Rainbows in Me" at numerous libraries, schools and camps and is available to hire for such bookings, private parties and fundraisers. Ms. Scharman and company will also be on hand that afternoon for questions and to greet festival goers and those interested in buying her book or CD of the play.
