The Trial tells the story of Kent "Mac" MacLain, a small-town attorney whose wife and two sons were killed in a tragic accident. He's been devastated by their horrific death and feels purposeless, with suicide his only escape. Despite his depression, he is prevailed upon to take on one final case in which he must defend an accused murderer against capital punishment. The film is a legal thriller that studies the issues of life, death and the search for meaning in truth.
