Merrick Life newspaper and the Merrick Garden Club invite you to participate in the 2009 Holiday Decorating Contest.
In addition to other sponsors, this year the Merrick Chamber of Commerce is contributing $200 worth of "Merrick Money" (to be spent at participating Merrick retail shops and restaurants) as part of the prizes awarded.
Chamber Secretary Fran Santacapita believes this further supports the mission statement of the Merrick Chamber to encourage residents to discover the advantages of shopping and dining locally.
Another new initiative she inspired is to encourage more homeowners to enter the contest by asking neighbors to nominate houses they believe should join in. This year's entry form, published in Merrick Life, includes a spot for these nominations. Nominations and entries may also be made to lmedit@optimum.net, subject line: holiday decorating contest.

Deadline for entries and nominations is Monday, December 14, to allow more time for decorating. Judges will drive around that evening to seek out other possible entries.
The final judging will be held on the evening of Thursday, December 17. Entrants should remember to leave their lights on that afternoon, since the judges start out at dusk. For information call 378-5320.
