CMIT Announces the Merr-Olympics on behalf of Merrick Kiwanis

CMIT Solutions would like to announce the Merr-Olympics on behalf of Merrick Kiwanis!

MERRICK KIWANIS CLUB is holding their 5th Annual “MERR~OLYMPICS” on Sunday June 12th

Chairing the event for the Kiwanis Club is Dr. Richard Seibert and co chair James Carroll.  The competition will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be awarded to the top 3 boys and girls in each grade level.  The competition is open to all Merrick and North Merrick students currently in grades 1 through 6 and middle school.  Flyers have been distributed throughout the elementary schools.  Events will include the standing long jump, vertical leap, 50 meter dash, medicine ball throw, sit & reach and sit-ups.  All children should be accompanied by a parent.  The “Merr-Olympics” will be held at Chatterton Elementary School, located on Merrick Ave and Smith Street, on the South Field behind the school. It will take each child a total of approximately 15-20 minutes to participate in all the events.  Families are welcome to stay and watch the entire event.

The purpose of Merr~Olympics is to bring awareness to your children’s strengths and weaknesses.  As we are all aware, childhood obesity is now a nationwide problem. The New York District Kiwanis Governor’s Project has asked Kiwanis Clubs to promote physical fitness in our children.  With that in mind, Dr. Seibert has developed a program for healthy competition for our Merrick/North Merrick youngsters, that will hopefully help bring about awareness for fitness and good health, along with a lifetime commitment of exercise and healthy living.  If you have any further questions or would like more information, please call Dr. Seibert at 867-8585.
