North Merrick Public Library Outdoor Schools Concert

COME ONE, COME ALL! 

The North Merrick Public Library  is thrilled to host, for the fifth consecutive year, our own Merrick students in a musical salute to our neighborhood.

The Town of Hempstead, through the auspices of Angie Cullin, will provide the Showmobile for this evening’s outdoor performance. This year’s participants are representative of our district’s  excellent music program.

The North Merrick  Jazz Band will be performing under the direction of Mrs. Peggy Rakas and Mr. Andrew Brunson. They will be playing Mission Impossible and featuring the trumpet section in a number called Trumpets with Attitude.

Word of Mouth is the highly selective Middle School a cappella (without accompaniment) group directed by Mrs. Dana Brandwein. This year, this special group of youngsters will be singing Here Comes the Sun (Beatles) and Dancing Queen (Abba) as well as many others.

The Calhoun-Mepham Chamber Orchestra is a string ensemble under the baton of Mr. Christopher Sutherland. They perform a wide range of repertoire, from classical to folk to film music. They will be performing Ravel’s Pavane and the finale to Prokofiev’s Classical Symphony.

The Calhoun Jazz Band, a gifted group of musicians in grades

9-12 under the direction of Mr. Ed Tumminelli, performs a wide variety of jazz, funk, swing, blues and fusion style. They have competed successfully throughout the east coast. This year’s program will include music by Miles Davis, David Benoit and Jaco Pastorius.

Please bring your own seating, as the concert will be held outdoors.
