Carrying on the Irish storytelling tradition (seanchas), Jim Hawkins will present this program of Irish stories and songs in cele of St. Patrick’s Day.
Jim, who was born in New York but spent his youth in the Midlands of Ireland, takes many themes from Irish history, culture and tradition and matches a story with a song to illustrate these. Many of his stories and songs are humorous-some of which he wrote himself. He delights in telling the stories of Eamon Kelly, one of Ireland’s great storytellers (seanchai).
Among the songs you’ll enjoy are “Come to the Bower;” “The Liar;” “Over in Killarney;” “Galway Bay;” and of course, the ever popular “Danny Boy.” Jim accompanies himself on the bodhran(bow-ron) while singing.
