The Merricks Make Music - Summer Concert

The library  will host, for the third year, Merrick students in a musical salute to the neighborhood. The Town of Hempstead, through the auspices of Angie Cullen, will provide the Showmobile for this evening’s performance. This year’s participants are representative of the school district’s excellent music program.

• The North Merrick Jazz Band is under the direction of Mrs. Peggy Rakas and Mr. Andrew Brunson. The 35 member ensemble will perform some Big Band hits, Latin favorites and improvised solos.
• Word of Mouth is the highly selective (based on audition) a cappella group of 28 at the middle school directed by Mrs. Dana Brandwein. Their performance will include hit songs by Journey, Maroon 5 and the Beatles.
• The Calhoun-Mepham Chamber Orchestra is an advanced string group under the baton of Mr. Christopher Sutherland. Their performance will include works by Grieg, Bach and Monti, with two string solos.
• The Calhoun Jazz Band , under the direction of Mr. Ed Tumminell, is comprised of talented students from grades 9-12 who compete throughout the east coast. This year’s performance will include music by Cole Porter, Buddy Rich, Steely Dan and Chick Corea.
