Explosive Device Detonates Outside Merrick Home: Police

The man, who threw the police, fled on foot and is still at large, police said.

NORTH MERRICK, NY — Police are investigating an explosive device that was thrown by an unknown man at 5:30 a.m. Sunday.

The man hurled the device onto the front of a residential driveway at Sherman Avenue, police said. The device ignited and caused front-end damage to a parked Cadillac Escalade.

The man fled on foot toward Park Avenue. No one was hurt.
