Fatality In Freeport Train Striking, MTA PD Confirms
MTA police said the person was struck by the train just before 4 p.m. Wednesday.
FREEPORT, NY. — The person struck by a train in Freeport Wednesday afternoon was pronounced dead, MTA police confirmed Wednesday night.
According to police, the westbound train from Babylon to Grand Central struck a person who wasn’t authorized to be on the tracks as it entered Freeport station at 3:53 p.m. Police said after an investigation including video review and witness statements there was no criminality suspected, and no injuries to train crew or passengers. The person struck by the train was pronounced dead by Northwell Health EMS, and efforts to identify the person are ongoing, police said.
Police also said that about 200 passengers on the Manhattan-bound train were detrained and put on another train at Freeport.
