Former Crossfit Location Remains Vacant

Patch spoke to the property's landlord regarding gym's short stay, future tenants.

It’s been several months since Crossfit, Merrick’s newest circuit training facility, came and went from their Merrick Road location to a larger facility on Newbridge Road in Bellmore.

Their short stay on Merrick Road has left yet another empty storefront on a road littered with them, but this situation may present a golden opportunity for a savvy entrepreneur looking to open a prospective business of their own.

Patch recently spoke with Steve of South LI Reality, the landlord of the shopping center about Crossfit’s short stay in his building and what kind of tenant the 1000 square foot, basement-less space is ideally suited for.

“They were a little too loud, basically,” he said of Crossfit. “They had a very unorthodox way of training. Sometimes banging on the walls and just way too much noise for the other two tenants. I asked them to do some soundproofing or find another location, and they opted to find another location, which probably was better for them.”

As Crossfit was a workout gym that required open space, the now-empty interior of the store has left prospective renters with a blank canvas to work with.

“When you’re a landlord, you hope to get a tenant who will come in and make some renovations and improve the property,” Steve said. “Crossfit just left a big, open space with no flooring, so whatever someone wants to do, they’re going to have to come in and do it from scratch. That’s a big plus for some people.”

But when it comes to the ideal business to take over the property, Steve feels the sky’s the limit – as long as they comply with one simple request.

“I’d like a more quiet business this time,” he joked. “But seriously, a retail store would be nice. However, that’s difficult these days because of the economy – people tend to go to the mall to buy clothing and shoes and items like that. In these local centers we get a lot of redundant business, such as salons and pizza parlors – those are the places that get repeat customers. Some people go to local boutiques for things, but it’s hard.”

Parties interested in renting the former Crossfit storefront space, located at 2336 Merrick Road, can contact Steve at of South LI Reality by calling (516) 781-0997.
