Here are the top five stories today in Merrick:
- Police are seeking the public's help locating a missing Hempstead teen, Tianna Ravenell. Witnesses say the 15-year-old was last seen 2:30 PM on Wednesday, Feb. 23. Click over to the Daily Voice to see a picture and read a description of the missing teen.
- The corner of Merrick and Kirkwood avenues in Merrick is an important spot for the town, although many residents don't know it. It's the location of the second village library, built in 1897. Before that, the library was housed in a local barn. Tap the liherald link to read about how the Merrick Historical Society is mulling over whether to make the building a museum.
- Is renewable offshore wind energy coming to New York? Energy company Equinor is working with local agencies to conduct a seafloor survey in Island Park, investigating the feasibility of alternative energy sources. - Step into Black history at the African American Museum of Nassau County alongside News 12 Westchester. The organization's leaders seek to showcase "hidden history," bringing light to lesser-known innovators like Thomas Jennings, the first Black person to receive a patent. - Find out what neighbors and business owners are saying about the gradual demise of Sunrise Mall over at CBS News New York. Management of the Massapequa facility has told the 50 tenants to vacate the 77-acre development. Some feel that Sunset's path is one that the other eight Long Island malls may follow as shopping patterns change nationwide.
