Here are the top five stories today in Merrick:
- Thanksgiving turned violent when a Poughkeepsie woman allegedly stabbed her brother in Hempstead. Veronica Hardwick was arrested in December for the murder of Richard Reshard on November 25, 2021. The Nassau County DA announced that Hardwick was indicted on three different charges on February 1. (Press Release Desk)
- Sad news out of Baldwin on Sunday: 19-year-old Nicolai Farguharson was struck and killed by an LIRR train near Grand Avenue. MTA police are investigating. (Daily Voice)
- Police are investigating a house fire in North Amityville. The blaze broke out early Tuesday morning, affecting an undisclosed number of occupants who were later treated for smoke inhalation. Officials say the cause of the fire doesn't appear to be criminal. (Newsday; subscription required)
- Burgerology is now open on Main Street in Farmingdale. It's the eighth location for the family-operated restaurant chain. And it's not just burgers on the menu — the eatery also promises a fun cocktail menu, milkshakes and nightlife! (Greater Long Island)
