1 Woman Critically Hurt From Morning Fire In Roosevelt: Police

Another victim is listed in stable condition, police say.

ROOSEVELT, NY — A house fire left one person severely injured after a fire swept through a home in Roosevelt Friday morning.

Police were called to 30 East Raymond Ave.at 8:46 a.m. on Friday and flames were fully engulfing the home.

A 79-year-old male resident was outside the home when first responders arrived. Police and the Roosevelt Fire Department broke a rear wall and removed an 82-year-old female victim.

She is listed in critical condition, while the man is in stable condition, police said. No other people were in the house.

A First Precinct police officer was also treated at a local hospital for a leg injury.

The Roosevelt Fire Department was assisted by eight other departments to extinguish the fire. There was extensive damage to the home, police said.

An investigation is ongoing.

Upon arrival, police observed the house was
fully engulfed and a 79-year-old male resident was outside the house. First Precinct
police with the assistance of the Roosevelt Fire department used the Nassau police
newly issued “Dynamic Entry Breaching Sledge “assigned to all patrol vehicles and
broke the rear house wall and removed an 82-year-old female victim. No other
victims were in the house. The victims were transported in a Nassau County Police
Ambulance to a local hospital and treated for smoke inhalation. The male was listed
as stable condition and the female was listed as being critical. A First Precinct police
officer was also treated at a local hospital for a leg injury. The Roosevelt Fire
Department was assisted by 8 other fire departments to extinguish the fire. The fire
caused extensive damage to the residence. The investigation is ongoing.
