Levy Lakeside Students Honor the Veterans in Their Lives
They thanked and honored the veterans in their family and community.
In observance of Veterans Day, the Levy Lakeside School held a heartwarming ceremony to honor students’ family members who have served the country.
Dressed in patriotic colors, administrators, teachers and students in grades K-6 filled the gymnasium as veterans and their families entered to rounds of applause. Opening the ceremony were members of the fifth grade color guard, each of whom held an American flag as they filed in. The group also led the Pledge of Allegiance and gave a vocal performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
Offering welcoming remarks, Principal Elizabeth Trencheny expressed her gratitude and discussed the importance of honoring veterans.

“I am very proud to be here today to represent not only the men who stand before you, but also the other United States military members who volunteered their time to help protect you, the government and the rights of this country,” Slater said. “When you see someone in uniform or hear that somebody has served in the military, please take the time to recognize and thank them for their service, because these people volunteered to defend our country and protect you.”
As the ceremony concluded with students presenting roses to the veterans in their families, thanking them for their service and dedication to the country, the entire Levy Lakeside school community performed “God Bless the USA.”
