Rebecca Katz says she took her employers' 15-year-old cat to save it from being put down. Now she's facing criminal charges.

A Baldwin nanny is in the doghouse for stealing her employers' pet cat.

Rebecca Katz has been working as a nanny for Julie and Russell Berman, of Merrick, for years, according to the New York Post. And she admitted to stealing the couples' cat, Tigger, who is 15 years old.

Katz said she stole the cat to save it from being euthanized.

"This is a good animal and he deserves better," Katz told News 12. "Euthanasia convenience is a real thing and people need to be aware of it."

In court papers, the Bermans said they were planning on having Tigger euthanized because of medical issues and the pain he was living in, according to News 12.

Katz appeared in court today. She was formally charged with petty larceny. She still has Tigger in her custody.
