Massive LIRR Delays for Evening Commute, Access to Penn Station Limited

Not a great evening to be on the rails.

A earlier disabled train is causing a rough commute home for LIRR riders and making it difficult for anyone to get into the city via train this evening.

Here’s the message on the LIRR’s website:

LIRR customers should expect delays and cancellations during the evening rush due to reduced capacity in the East River tunnels. The LIRR has use of only 3 of the 4 East River Tunnels. Due to reduced capacity in the East River tunnels, LIRR is currently providing service from Penn to Babylon, Ronkonkoma,Huntington/Port Jefferson and Port Washington. Customers seeking eastbound service for other branches are advised to take the 2/3 train to Atlantic Terminal. Service is temporarily suspended westbound between Jamaica & Penn due to an earlier disabled train. NYC Transit is cross-honoring fares on the E train at (Sutphin Blvd) Kew Gardens (Union Tpke) Forest Hills (71st Ave) and Woodside on the 7 train (61st Av). Additionally, the MTAPD has limited access into Penn due to crowding conditions.
