🌱Long Beach Shooting + LIRR Electricians Threaten Stoppage

Here are the top five stories today in Merrick:

  1. There was a shooting in Long Beach at 2:20 a.m. Saturday morning. One man was critically injured. Authorities have not yet released the man’s name. The investigation is ongoing. (Patch)
  2. In commuting news, the union for the Long Island Rail Road electrical workers is threatening a potential work stoppage over the suspension of one of its members. The worker, 58-year-old Ronald Dolginko, was suspended for six months in December after marijuana was discovered during a test. He denies any drug use. (ABC7)
  3. A family in Oyster Bay is trying to bring their relatives who escaped from Ukraine to their home in the U.S., but the U.S. embassy overseas has denied their tourist visas. The family has tried embassies in several European countries to no avail. (ABC7)
  4. Anchor Bar Seafood Bar and Grill has been named the best seafood restaurant on Long Island. The Merrick eatery has won the title for the third year in a row. The restaurant located at 1960 Bayberry Avenue, was named by Bethpage’s Best of L.I. (Daily Voice)

  • Take a 5- to 6-mile nature walk at Bethpage State Park (99 Quaker Meeting House Road) beginning at 10:30 a.m. today. The walk is free but there is a charge to park unless you have an Empire Passport. Bring a picnic lunch for after the walk if you’d like to socialize a little longer. The group will meet at the parking lot near the picnic area.
  • Beginners Tai Chi class online at 11 a.m. this morning. It promotes calmness, balance and mental focus. The class is free but you must register and sign a waiver here.
  • The Elmont Memorial Library Theater is serving up a musical tribute celebration at 2:30 p.m. The music featured will be from Andrew Lloyd Weber, Elton John and Paul McCartney. Cost is $40-$50 with senior pricing available. Music of the Knights has more information.
  • Join Rich Aronovitch at Brokerage Comedy Club (2797 Merrick Rd., Bellmore) for Sunday Night Funnies at 7 p.m. Tickets are $14 general admission.
