Man Caught at Freeport Train Station After Attempting to Rob Nearby Bank: Police

The man tried to rob a Chase bank in Freeport, police say.

FREEPORT, NY - A New Cassel man was arrested after attempting to rob a Freeport bank on Monday afternoon, according to Nassau Police.

Harvey Rushmore, 55, walked into Chase Bank on 25 South Main Street and presented a demand note for money to a teller, police said.

When the teller backed away from the window and showed another teller the note, Rushmore left the bank without any proceeds, police said.

After police arrived, a notification was broadcast and a short time later, Rushmore was found at the Freeport Long Island Rail Road parking lot just a few blocks away, and placed under arrest without incident by Freeport Police, police said.

He is charged with third degree attempted robbery.
