Merrick Elementary Schools Participate in Coat for Kids Campaign
The campaign was run by Assemblyman David McDonough.
In the Merrick School District, Birch Elementary School Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) club held a coat drive to support Assemblyman David McDonough’s “Coat for Kids” campaign.
SADD members encouraged students to donate gently used or new coats for all ages and sizes.
Astonished by the amount of donations, Assemblyman McDonough presented the school and students with a certificate thanking them for their contribution to the campaign.

The program has collected over 4,000 coats this year alone, with an estimated 22,000 coats collected over the 13 years the program has been running.
“Programs like this are vital to our community and will mean the world to a less fortunate Long Islander during these cold winter months,” McDonough said.
