Merrick Firefighters Tackle Blaze At Waste Transfer Station

Merrick firefighters quickly responded to a waste transfer station Sunday to put out a fire that sprang up in the garbage there.
The fire broke out at the Town of Hempstead transfer station on Merrick Road. A large pile of debris inside one of the buildings at the site had caught fire. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze and quickly had it put out.
Firefighters from the Freeport, North Merrick, Bellmore and Roosevelt fire departments all responded.
