Merrick Honors Nation's Heroes at Memorial Day Parade
The annual Memorial Day Parade of the Merricks yesterday turned Merrick Avenue into a sea of red, white and blue.
As Merokeans welcomed the unofficial start of summer this weekend with barbecues, trips to the beach and fireworks, all of the attention in town Monday morning was centered on the annual Memorial Day parade.
The Parade of the Merricks kicked off from Veterans Memorial Plaza near the LIRR station at 9:30 a.m. and headed north on Merrick Avenue before the crowds gathered for a ceremony at Merrick's Veteran Memorial Park.
Hempstead Town Councilwoman Angie Cullin served as the grand marshal of the parade, which brought out a host of community groups to honor our nation's heroes.
