Merrick Man Pleads Not Guilty to Causing 112 MPH Crash While Driving Drunk: DA

A passenger was seriously injured in the crash that occurred back in October, the DA says.

An off-duty NYPD officer accused of driving over 112 MPH while drunk and crashing into a generator in Wantagh, injuring his passenger, plead not guilty to all charges on Thursday, according to the Nassau County DA's office.

Gregory Lecrann, 29, of Merrick, was arraigned on charges of:

  • aggravated vehicular assault
  • second degree assault
  • first degree vehicular assault
  • second degree vehicular assault
  • second degree reckless endangerment
  • reckless driving
  • operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol
  • aggravated operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol

After pleading not guilty Lecrann was released on his own recognizance. If convicted of the top count, he could face up to 5 to 15 years in prison, the DA said.

On Oct. 9, Lecrann was allegedly driving drunk, while coming from a bar, with a passenger in his grey 2015 Nissan Altima on Sunrise Highway going into Wantagh Avenue, the DA said.

He was allegedly driving over 112 MPH when he crashed into a generator and a utility pole in the center median of the roadway, the DA said.

The passenger was injured in the crash, suffering from a broken femur and scarring, the DA said.

Lecrann surrendered on Thursday morning to police.

He is due back in court on July 21.
