Merrick Woman Named Hadassah Woman of the Year

Amy Weinstein was honored for her tireless efforts on behalf of the group and the goals of Hadassah.

Recently, Merrick-Bellmore Dayan-Lilah Group of Hadassah named Amy Weinstein, a Merrick resident, the Woman of the Year.

A Hadassah member since 1995, Weinstein is a life member. She received the organization’s National Leadership Award in 2003 and the Myrtle Wreath Award in 2005.

She has chaired installation and mah jongg night several times as well as spring dinner and Chinese Auction and has always helped out with bingo and various dinners and events through the years.

She did hand calligraphy as Dayan Lilah’s Certificate and Tree coordinator for eight years, a position which she gave up to serve as the group’s co-President from 2009 to 2011. 

She also became the unofficial Nassau Region Conference Piano Accompanist four years ago.

Weinstein, who grew up in Bellmore and has lived in Merrick for 22 years with her husband and two daughters, has worked as a music teacher at various synagogues. Currently she works at Oceanside Jewish Center and Central Synagogue, Wee Friends Day Camp and will be adding Hewlett-East Rockaway Jewish Center to her list in the fall.  She is also an independent consultant with Arbonne International, a health and wellness company. 

Outside of Hadassah, she has served on the PTA executive board at Chatterton Elementary School, was an active member of the Temple Beth Am PTA, serves as class representative for her Mepham High School class and is a member of the district alumni choir.
