Merrick's Tennis Star Scott Lipsky Wins Atlanta Doubles Title
Kennedy High grad captures his third ATP Tour doubles title Sunday.

Merrick native Scott Lipsky, along with partner Rajeev Ram, won the Atlanta Tennis Championships doubles title on Sunday.
Lipsky and Ram won the first set over Rohan Bopanna, of India, and Kristof Vliegen, of Belgium, 6-3, but the American duo was down match point in a decisive third set tiebreak, according to Long Island Tennis Magazine.
Lipsky would return a backhand down the line, though, to save match point and four points later, he and Ram won the title, according to the magazine.

Lipsky, who has now won three doubles title on the ATP Tour, explained to Long Island Tennis Magazine last year why he chose to remain on the Kennedy team instead of focusing solely on the highly competitive professional junior circuit.
"Tennis is an individual sport, but I think it was fun to be part of a team," Lipsky said. "You need that sort of team atmosphere once in a while, just so you feel like you're part of something more than just playing by yourself. I felt like high school tennis was a good way to do that."
Lipsky, who turned pro in 2003 and reached a career high doubles ranking of No. 38 in the world in 2008, now resides in Huntington Beach, Calif.
