5. Roe's Casa Dolce Opens Shop in Merrick: Roe's Casa Dolce has opened up in Merrick, and a pair of Merokeans are running the show. Jennifer and George Rivera took over the Rockville Centre location two years ago. George is a self-taught baker, and his treats have been a big hit in RVC. When the Riveras saw that Blockbuster had closed its doors at 1756 Merrick Ave., the fit seemed natural. 4. Merrick Car Intruder Caught on Video: A man was spotted on camera breaking into a vehicle on Elliot Place in North Merrick. A New York City Police officer from Merrick spotted the suspect while going through footage from his his home security system. 3. Police: Merrick Gamestop Robbed at Gunpoint: Two Gamestop employees were tied up and held at gunpoint during a robbery in Merrick. According to detectives, two males entered Gamestop at 2200 Sunrise Hwy. and ordered the two employees to lay face down behind the counter. Kennedy High School graduate Brett Cohen posted a video on YouTube, his life has changed completely. The video, which is about Cohen’s prank to fool the people of New York City into believing he’s a celebrity, has actually helped him become one.  A Merrick woman was apprehended by New York State Police on the Southern State Parkway for leaving the scene of the accident. According to New York State Police, a GMC Suburban operated by Cheryl Laurino of Merrick was heading eastbound on the Southern State Parkway near exit 29 when the GMC moved from lane unsafely and struck a Jeep, causing the Jeep to loose control and strike a Hyundai.
