Nassau Man Arrested With Illegal Gun: Police
Police say officers found the handgun on him during a routine traffic stop.

A Roosevelt man was arrested Saturday night after police say he was caught with an illegal handgun.
According to police, officers on patrol saw a 2008 Honda drive through a stop sign on Anna Avenue and East Roosevelt Avenue in Roosevelt, and then pulled the car over. When they approached the car, police say the officers saw a passenger in the back seat — Domingo Alvarenga, 21, of William Street — try to hide a handgun. The officers made Alvarenga step out of the car, and police say they found a black and silver .380 caliber handgun. Alvarenga was arrested without incident.
Alvarenga is charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm. He was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday and was released without bail.
