Nassau Man Caught Stealing Copper From Abandoned Home: Police
Police say he broke into two different homes to steal copper piping from the walls.
ROOSEVELT, NY — A Uniondale man was arrested Monday morning after police say he was caught burglarizing a home in Roosevelt.
According to police, officers responded to a call of a suspicious person at an empty home on Pleasant Avenue just after 6 a.m. When they arrived, police say they found Elliot Fleming, 58, of Nassau Road, Uniondale, in the backyard of the home holding copper piping. Police say the officers ordered Fleming to drop the pipes, which he did. Fleming was placed under arrest without incident.
Police say that an investigation found that Fleming had broken into the home and was trying to steal the copper piping from inside. Police say he was responsible for a second burglary of copper piping at 4 a.m. that day.

Fleming is charged with second-degree burglary, attempted second-degree burglary, third-degree burglary, attempted third-degree burglary, possession of burglar tools and second-degree criminal mischief. He is scheduled to be arraigned later today.
