Nassau Police Arrest 2 Men For Guns, Drugs

Police say one of the men was trying to hide a gun when detectives on patrol were driving by.

Nassau County police arrested two Roosevelt men on Tuesday night after detectives say they saw them hiding a gun in front of one of their homes.

According to police, detectives from the Gang Investigations Squad were on patrol in an unmarked car at 9:05 p.m. when they saw David Wheeler, 30, of Elmwood Avenue, sitting on the front lawn of Mark Fitzgerald, 22, of Mirin Avenue. Police say Wheeler was smoking marijuana in public view, while Fitzgerald pulled a gun from his waistband and dropped it next to the stoop of Wheeler's home.

Police say the detectives got out of their car and arrested the two without incident, and then recovered the gun.
