Nassau Police Officers Save Dog From House Fire

The two officers ran into the burning home to save Gizmo, the family dog.

It was a close call for one dog in Roosevelt Monday morning. But thanks to the efforts of two Nassau County police officers, Gizmo was saved from a house fire.

Police got a call for a fire at a home on Hudson Avenue at 10:35 a.m. Two officers were able to make their ways to a back window to check if anyone was home.

All of the occupants were already out of the house, but the family's dog, Gizmo, was still inside. The officers went into the home as the fire intensified and manged to get Gizmo out. Both suffered minor cuts. No other injuries were reported.

The fire was determined to be accidental, and most likely began due to an electrical problem in a second-floor bedroom.
