Nassau Police Rescue Jet Skier Stranded In Marsh

The man was airlifted off an island where he had become stranded and back to shore.

Nassau County police rescued a stranded jet skier from the marshes south of Merrick Wednesday night.

According to police, a call came in just after 8:45 p.m. for a jet skier in distress in Merrick Bay. The Marine Bureau, Aviation Bureau, U.S. Coast Guard, police officers and multiple fire departments responded and conducted a search.

A Nassau Police helicopter located the man in the marsh on Big Crow Island. The helicopter landed and rescued him. He was taken to Wantagh Park where he was examined. The jet skier was uninjured and refused further medical attention.
