Police say the mother caused bruises to the newborn's face and back.

A Roosevelt woman was arrested early Wednesday morning for slapping her newborn daughter, police say.

According to police, Fiona Lall, 30, of Whitehouse Avenue, slapped her 7-week-old daughter because the baby was crying. Police say Lall caused swelling to the baby's face and bruising to her back.
